March 18 ESBCCT: Corsicana, Belton

Corsicana courthouse, 1905.
Architect: J. E. Flanders
Nice courthouse, nice old town; very flat and felt hot and dull to me.

We lunched at Fort Parker.

Belton courthouse, built in 1895, recently restored.
Architect: Jasper N. Preston & sons
Lovely courthouse - wow!  Belton seems to be a lovely town too.

And on to Austin! Whew! Great trip!

Aaron's comments:  Having returned home... 3/21/2011
The drive home was too short.  If it could have involved maybe another week and another couple of dozen courthouses, THEN we may have been satisfied.  We tacked on two more courthouses on the way, Corsicana and Belton.  Both demand attention and have been well maintained and restored.  Belton has a nice backstory, having had its bell tower removed some time in the seventies, but then the county historical commission replaced it with a new one in 1999.  Belton overall is a cute little town. It is sandwiched between Temple and Killeen.  We were nearing the end of the trip and the fact that our vacation was coming to a close.  Silence.
